5 Tips to Help You Crush Your New Year’s Goals

Happy New Year! We made it!

We made it to 2023!

You know what that means, right? Well, it means that new year's resolutions, goals, and commitments are being crafted and manifested right now as we speak. I have some items on my list that I want to accomplish this year. I've never met a single person who didn't have something that they wanted to work on or improve. It's the official "New Year, New Me" kickoff for the next 365 days of our lives.

Why do we even come up with these goals? It's because there are some things we want to improve on, and the new year is like a fresh start. It's a new beginning.

I've learned over the years and from personal experience that getting those goals itemized on paper is not the hard part. Being consistent and holding yourself accountable is the problem. So I speak from experience when I say that I have not seen any of my "New Year's" goals actively fulfilled from January to December consistently. On a consistent twelve-month track, I've fallen off from trying to eat better or drink more water. And it's not just me. According to Discover Happy Habits, only 9-12 % of people stick to their goals at the beginning of the year.

Now, some of these goals drop off and get picked back up later in the year. And that's fine. Timing is everything. But remember, S.M.A.R.T. goals are more achievable. Have you heard of S.M.A.R.T. goals?

So this year... my goal is to achieve my goals.

Starting the year with goals or intentions is a great way to stay on track and progress throughout the year. So along with making your goals S.M.A.R.T., check out these 5 tips to help you achieve your new year's goals:

Visualize Your Goals... Digitally

Have you heard of a vision board? Instead of cutting clips from magazines, use your phone or computer to capture images and quotes that you can paste on a digital vision board. You can also use tools like Canva to assist with putting your creative spin on it. Once you're done, save it to your phone as wallpaper so you can constantly be reminded of your goals. Break Your Goals Down

Looking at the overall end goal can be overwhelming, so break your goals down into smaller, more manageable steps. This will make them easier to accomplish and keep you from wanting to give up. This will also help you stay on track.

Set Deadlines

Creating a timeline for yourself will help keep you motivated and focused. Make sure to set realistic deadlines that you are confident you can meet. It may be helpful to have a quarterly check-in on the goal's progress. This can help you evaluate what pivots need to be made so that you can keep moving along toward the final deadline.

Plan

Make a plan of action that outlines how you will reach your goals. Include what steps you need to take, any resources you need, and any obstacles you may encounter. Think of this as your toolkit, but make sure it is ready in advance so that you have these resources or transitions just in case you need them.

Celebrate Your Successes

Whether monthly, quarterly, or however frequently you decide, celebrating your successes will keep you motivated and remind you of how far you have come.
